And We TRAIN!

27/8/2009: DEWAN SERI SARJANA, UNITEN, Karate Shitoryu Club has successfully conducted a training that was previously scheduled. According to many eye-witnesses, the training was done without exercise mats due to some unforseen circumstances made by the DEWAN administration. However, the lack of disappointment did not deter its fellow karate-kas to turn away. In fact....

I GOT TAKE-DOWN BY ULTRA SUPER SENSEI AGAIN!
Yeah, its gotta be it. Every class, there must be a take-down, if not, its not karate. :D Just kidding. To recap, today's training focused on some kihon (basic movements), sports sparring and kata. Since im more in love with kata, due to my biasity, im gonna brief a bit about what kata is all about.

ERK! KATA! Confirm compulsary during grading. AKA: VERY IMPORTANT! yeah, right. Kata obviously tests our ability to memorise the pre-determined steps, set by long-lost senseis which the reasons now only God knows why. Even the senseis proclaimed that kata is the heart of karate! Karate is self-defense. So why kata? If we can protect ourselves, do a few shadow kicks and earth-shakes without kata, why learn it anyway? I can't even see how we can apply kata in practical fights!

1. True, kata does test our ability to memorise pre-determined steps. The thing is, it also sets-in those memorisation into our muscles. The more we train, the more our muscles are accustomed to the movements. So, our body can react faster to threats than it would normally do.

2. Kata is very practical in fights. Its just how you are actually going to apply it. For those text-book freaks, get this: APPLY YOUR KNOWLEDGE! The kata has set many pre-determined blocks and thrusts that we may actually apply during a real fight. Of course we are not going to 100% plagiarise the kata, but we do apply what is in the kata to counter and strike. The thing is: APPLY not COPY PASTE, or ur just gonna get yourself bashed up pretty bad. Real bad......

3. Kata is extremely hard to master. And really, really hard. To get that perfect stance, to get that perfect punch and kick, body coordination, breathing control, reflex. There are many more properties to a good kata. Can you really do it? Think about it. Good kata = Good karate-ka.

4. I love kata. And do not ever try to dissuade me. I just love it, ok? So what if I'm bias?

And... I got take-down again by sensei. :D The feeling is just super awesome! You see the whole world reeling, and then, that moment of faith sinks. You hit earth. Ouch. :P What sensei did was an application from a kata, Heian-yon-dan *if my spelling is accurate*.

Note: Im tired. :D hehheh. Take care guys. The article needs a lot to be touched up.

WEIH! WENT TO PUTRAJAYA RAMADHAN BAZAAR! Bought the super-ultra-awesome roti-john! Onibaku, ur the best! At first, I, Limau was sceptical. But when the taste sank in, I did not regret going to the bazaar in the rain, faced the JAM going back home, and being pucnched a lot in the stomach today :D Also liked the tauhu-fa, the chendol drink was awesome, great paprick chicken, AND THE APAM BALIK! BEST i'VE TASTED IN YEARS! WOOT! Many thanx to Onibaku and the Kenaria guys.

Note to self: DO NOT EAT TOO MUCH BEFORE TRAINING!
