So a few weeks earlier I started trying to find out whats next for me after I received my yellow belt and according to the senpais and sensei, I will have to learn Heian Shodan. Being the good karateka padawan myself, I decided to check out videos of it on the web.
Now, we all know of this nifty Shitoryu site www.shitokai.com. However to watch the videos there you have to download the Apple Quicktime plugin and I wasnt gonna do that so I headed over to youtube and started searching for Heian Shodan....
...which got me tons of "SHOTOKAN" Heian Shodan videos but no Shitoryu's (Shotokan's Heian Shodan is very different from Shitoryu's). Which was baffling to the say the least... Is Shitoryu that unpopular?
As it turns out, today while surfing the web for some karate photos to make a banner out of (hopefully soon) I stumbled upon this very enlightening photo...
To summarize what it says: "Heian" used to be called "Pinan" back in the days. Aaaandd as it turns out also, there ARE quite a few of Pinan Shodan videos on youtube. So yes.
Learn something new -every- day.
